What is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour is WWF’s largest initiative to raise awareness on climate change.
The objective of Earth Hour is to get as many individuals, businesses and households around the world to turn off their lights and electrical appliances for one hour. It aims to educate the global community about the threats of climate change and how easy it is for individuals and businesses to make small changes to the way they live and operate- small changes that will make a big difference. It hopes to deliver a global mandate for environmental reform to world leaders attending the UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen, December 2009, to strike up a new global climate deal to usurp Kyoto.
Earth Hour 2009
Earth Hour 2009 will take place in over 500 cities from 100 countries of the world including London, Moscow, Los Angeles, Sydney, Singapore, Manila, Dubai, Venice, Milan, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, Mexico and Cape Town to name a few. Some of the most recognizable landmarks of the world-Australia’s iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House, the world’s tallest hotel building in Dubai – the Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest tower – the CN Tower in Toronto, the iconic Table Mountain and Taipei Tower in Taiwan are amongst a number of iconic landmarks that will support Earth Hour 2009.
